In Buddhist counties like Laos, monks will traditionally go out at down and collect their food from local people. Here is to see a long line of monks leaving the monastery every morning each day. Monks are not necessarily vegetarian, it depends on what food its given to them. However they will object to any meat that has ben killed just for them. Each day they will collect enough food for breakfast and the meal before midday. They will not eat or drink after this time (except clear water).

Monks are to collect, receive and consume food between dawn and midday (taken until 12 noon). A group of 280 monks come every morning to collect the food from the citizen and the giver prays and thanks to the monk.
