Bedugul, 18 km north of Denpasar and 1400 meters above sea level, is known for its excellent golf course. The three lakes of the area provide the water for the fields, rivers and springs on the plains below. Lush pine forests make for clean air. The area renowned for its fruit and vegetables. A beautiful sight is the "Ulun Danu" temple which seems to rise out of the lake.

This is one of Bali's most important irrigation temples, the destination of pilgrims from all over the island who come to worship Dewi Danu, Bali's water goddess. Periodically the temple is flooded by the rising lake, then reclaimed again and again.

After the most famous temple complex on Bali "Tanah Lot", the Ulun Danu Temple is surely the most photographed temple on this island.
We were lucky that the weather and clouds changed every minutes and show a different scene. Most photos show the temple in sunshine and with blue sky. We'd heavy rain, thick clouds and very dense fog - and only a few tourists.

The name of Ulun Danu Bratan Temple is taken from the lake where the temple is built at Bratan Lake. The name of Bratan Lake is inseparable with the Bratan Mount as Deity and Goddess as fertility source, prosperity to keep the prosperity in life and society life. In papyrus chronicle of the Mengwi, this temple is referred as the name of Parhyangan ri pinggiring danu Bratan (sanctum located in lakeside of Bratan Lake ). Ulun is come from Hulu word meaning head or power and in this case is intended by Ulun Danu Bratan means power of Bratan Lake that is Danu Goddess.

The existence of Ulun Danu Temple reminds that The Balinese Hindu live tolerantly with other people outside of Hindu like Buddha. It is signified by the existence of Buddhist Temple located outside of temple area. This temple building look very beautiful with Buddha Monk Statues put surround the temple. These Buddhist Temples are strategically situated in the lush tropical garden with cool atmosphere surround it. In this page, I present one of Buddhist Temples in Bedugul Bali.

A big tree stands beside the entrance way to the temple complex. The words in Balinese often are written in different ways like "Bratan Lake" or "Lake Beratan". Most common is the notation like "Bratan" which I follow in my further descriptions.
