Rainbow over Icking

My wife showed interest to use my former camera, so I charged the batteries and tried to explain how to operate it (eventually, we decided to use ‘auto’). I was surprised to find some old pictures on it. Most files appeared to be corrupted in some way and couldn’t be uploaded to iPhoto, but another program accepted them, and I was glad it did: I’m sure, the past few years, I took more rainbow photos than people would care to see, but I thought the light was quite extraordinary on this series.

Apart from the double rainbow (which is always nice to have), I particularly liked the light on the top of the tree.

One of the gripes I have with both of my cameras is that they won’t record rainbows in their entirety: a wide angle of 24mm eq. simply isn’t enough. Well, one tries to make the best of what one’s got...

Colors in the air
Oh, everywhere
She comes in colors – Mick Jagger/Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones, “She’s like a rainbow”)
Weirdly, the “she” in the quotation is the rainbow itself, but my only alternative would be from “The Wizard of Oz”, which would be far worse. Some viewers may think they’ve seen this picture before –well, they haven’t: I took it only yesterday. I still thought I needed some excuse for posting it, and I found it in the undervalued “Picquoteaday” group. One day, I’ll overtake Sherry.

I really hate to be boring, and can’t help it if I am. Last Thursday, there again was one of those rainbows. We’re getting used to them, though not enough to keep my camera in its bag, and not enough to keep the resulting pictures to myself.
If anything, this picture proves that I badly need a new camera with a 20mm lens: I hate cut-off rainbows almost as much as being boring.

OK, this is actually #6 in a series of five... It kind of epitomizes familiar themes of the other pictures.

I shot the series “Isartal 1-5” yesterday evening (July 24th) between 8:45 and 8:55 PM, if not in the order of uploading.
Light and sky were changing constantly. I took some thirty pictures, fingers trembling with excitement.

Sorry, to bother you again with a rainbow. I’ve seen rainbows like this perhaps three or four times in my whole life, and the past weeks are full of them... In a way, this one is even better than the former: it’s a double one!

This amazing rainbow seemed to rise very near to where we live, and to end somewhere near the veiled Alps, thus covering the whole sky. It faded after just a few minutes.

In my life, I have rarely seen a “complete” rainbow, and this is the first one I could photograph; the 24mm lens on my Sony DSC-R1 sadly cut off a small part of it, but the sight is still impressive.
