Flowering Lilly Pilly

The bee was a bonus. :-) The Lilly Pilly is a small tree, native to coastal south-eastern Australia, and a member of the Myrtaceae family. They now are popular garden plants. Posted at 22.22-02-02-2022 (local time here). :-)

Our Lilly Pilly shrubs (Acmena smithii) are flowering and attracting honey bees and native bees (see note). These bushes are an Australian native, originally from east coast rainforests but now very popular in gardens.

Care to try a Lilly-pilly?

These are the fruit of the Lilly-pilly tree, a native of eastern Australia. The actual size of these fruit is about 7-10mm and there are many such bunches on the tree (see note). A few months ago I showed the flowers. Although the fruit are edible I wouldn't suggest picking and trying one, they are mouth-puckeringly astringent. Cooked up with some sugar though, they make a very pleasant sauce. Explored.

Our Lilly-pilly trees are in full flower and the bees are loving it. Best viewed large. Like the bee, I'll be buzzing off for the coming week after tonight, so best wishes to everyone until then. Explored - and home again.
