It's cooler there

19 Dec 2019 39 33 610
The record high temperatures in Australia at present have prompted me to cool down by posting this image of snowy Ornes in Norway. HFF and best wishes for the weekend, everyone.

After Tromso

18 Aug 2019 36 26 406
I won't even try to place this on the map, except to say that it was taken between Tromso and Honningsvag. Right along the Norwegian coast, it was surprising to see little cottages sprinkled along what would have seemed totally isolated shorelines. Best viewed large. My involvement on ipernity is limited at present, so my apologies if I do not respond to your comments or visit your images - I shall try to do so as far as possible. Explored.

Snowy town

15 Aug 2019 16 9 268
The interesting little town of Honningsvag, in the far north of Norway, where a sign notes that it is only 2100km from the North Pole. My involvement on ipernity is limited at present, so my apologies if I do not respond to your comments or visit your images - I shall try to do so as far as possible.

Serious fences

15 Aug 2019 40 37 404
These fences would have to rate highly on any scale of importance! HFF and best wishes for the weekend, everyone. My involvement on ipernity is limited at present, so my apologies if I do not respond to your comments or visit your images - I shall try to do so as far as possible. Explored.

Meeting lovely lips

08 Aug 2019 38 28 411
A Tromso meeting. HFF and best wishes for the weekend, everyone. Explored.

Auroras

04 Aug 2019 35 24 433
When I'd taken auroral images in the Antarctic long ago, I used a tripod (I had only very slow film). This time I had high ISO and a tripod, but shooting from the deck of a moving ship meant I should have used an even faster shutter. Well, it adds an interesting effect! :-) More images in PiPs, taken at various times on the trip. Explored. Family health issues will limit my involvement on ipernity, so my apologies if I do not respond to your comments or visit your images - I shall try to do so as far as possible.

Passing ships

28 Jul 2019 42 26 475
Taken a little after sunrise and before my previous image, as the Hurtigruten ship "MV Nordkapp" passed by. Sorry, I can't ID the other red ship, but this is best viewed large. Family health issues are likely to limit my involvement on ipernity, so my apologies if I do not respond to your comments or visit your images - I shall try to do so as far as possible.

Crossing the Circle

24 Jul 2019 32 29 456
I guess this will resonate with my European friends currently in a heatwave. An early morning view as our ship crossed the Arctic Circle on its way northward. The sphere on the island is the latitude marker. Explored. Circumstances unrelated to photography will limit my involvement on ipernity for some time. On that basis, my apologies if I do not respond to your comments or visit your images - I shall try to do so as far as possible.

Alesund harbour again

16 Jul 2019 23 13 359
Another view of Alesund harbour and the mountain overlooking the town. Another to view on black.

Alsesund streets

16 Jul 2019 12 8 363
Some of the cobbled streets in Alesund. Of particular interest are the buildings with Art nouveau style and dated 1905. A major fire in 1904 destroyed much of the town and many buildings were rebuilt the following year in the current fashion, which I think looks great.

Coming past

09 Jul 2019 25 14 445
Heading northward and passing a fishing boat, off the Norwegian coast. Best viewed large on black.

Approaching Moltustranda #2

08 Jul 2019 10 5 390
Gradually approaching the jetty for this little settlement.

In Moltustranda

08 Jul 2019 14 6 374
From the ship's front observation lounge, as we approached the jetty. This impressed me at just how manoeuvrable, with their side thrusters, these ships are.

Approaching Moltustranda #1

08 Jul 2019 33 15 395
After passing the islands and little lighthouse in my previous series, we came in to the jetty for the village (where we didn't stay long). In this image we were on the approach: see also the next two images (also in PiPs) - all best viewed large. Explored.

Nearing a port

06 Jul 2019 33 21 456
The Hurtigruten ships make many stops along the Norwegian coast. Some stops, at larger ports, are for several hours. Other stops, at small coastal centres, are for little more than minutes. We're approaching a quick visit here which Hurtigruten identify as Torvik on their general map, but which on Google Earth is identified as Moltustranda (see map): the little lighthouse on this island makes it quite identifiable. All three images are best viewed large on black. Explored.

Our next stop

06 Jul 2019 16 6 298
The Hurtigruten ships make many stops along the Norwegian coast. Some stops, at larger ports, are for several hours. Other stops, at small coastal centres, are for little more than minutes. Here we're sailing (out to the left of the image) around the nearby island and lighthouse, then heading for the little port beyond.

Looking back

06 Jul 2019 17 10 318
Looking back at a small lighthouse we passed on our way up the Norwegian coast. See the following images for more details.

Heading away

04 Jul 2019 36 67 402
Our first morning at sea, heading up the Norway coast toward Alesund. HFF and best wishes for the weekend, everyone. Explored.
