Stockmen mustering

From an old slide taken in 1971. Heading up the Oodnadatta Track we met this group of stockmen going out (with their spare horses) to commence mustering (possibly several weeks) on Anna Creek Station. Anna Creek (23,677 km2 (9,142 sq mi) is the world's largest cattle station, 7 times larger than the largest US ranch and larger than countries such as Slovenia and Israel. The number of cattle varies with the conditions (drought etc) but typically is between 10-20,000.
As this work is now mechanised with aircraft and motorcycles, this has become a historic image!
Translations to US English: stockmen = cowboys, station = ranch, mustering = rounding up.

While out viewing the Christmas lights in Melbourne (previous images) I was surprised to see these horses and carriages taking spectators around the crowded streets.

This seemed an appropriate image to follow that of the silo art featuring cart horses. Taken at the tourist village part of Echuca, where we were holding our National Muster of the Renault 4CV Register of Australia. Some of the little Renault 4CVs are peeking into the image in the PiP .
Wishing everyone a Happy Fence Friday and a safe and enjoyable weekend.

These artworks are on the reverse side of the silo featuring the cart horses. The owl on the silo to the right is an endangered Barking Owl, with few left in the wild. This artwork also was done by Jimmy D'Vate.

With my previous image of Sophia, I mentioned that Goorambat is known for its artwork. The silos there were painted by renowned artist Jimmy D'Vate. This painting of the Clydesdale cart horses Clem, Sam and Banjo is one of my favourites. I really suggest viewing large to get the best feeling of this.
There is more art on the other side of the silos, in the (clickable) PiP.

There's not a lot of colour to be seen in this foggy, frosty and drought-affected early morning scene from the NSW Southern Tablelands. Best viewed large, maybe while listening to this link. HFF and have a great weekend, everyone.
Explored.

Some horsey interest in a wandering photographer trying to capture a former country church. Best viewed large and more shots in notes. HFF
