After a day's driving, it was pleasant to take a stroll with the camera. Happy Fence Friday and have a great weekend, everyone.

A bench alongside the beach in Wollongong harbour. HBM and have a good week, everyone.

New marina

27 Nov 2022 24 21 204
This very new marina in its new artificial harbour, has just been dug out of the land at Shellharbour and connected by a channel dug to the ocean to fill it. As can be seen in the background (and PiP) new buildings are now being erected around it. Wishing everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good new week.

Needs to be viewed large on black. Showing the port area of Hobart viewed from the hotel room, at sunrise on the day of my departure from Hobart. A stitched panorama.

Wollongong harbour

09 May 2022 32 23 253
A sunny autumn day at the side of the harbour in Wollongong - even a swimmer going by near the buoy and someone sitting on a bench. The 'old' lighthouse at left, the 'new' one at right. Happy Bench Monday, everyone.

Happy Fence (Fishing) Friday

23 Mar 2022 30 29 191
Game fishing boats awaiting hire in the boat harbour at Bermagui on the NSW south coast. Bermagui has been very popular for deep water offshore game fishing for many years. I'm afraid my hoped-for tour to capture more silo art has had to be deferred. The first major stop on my trip was to visit family in Melbourne, but there I became a covid contact - and it seemed prudent to defer the silo art trip until later. (I've since tested clear of covid). Happy Fence (Fishing) Friday, have a great weekend everyone.

Down at the Bay

Batemans Bay, from near the town centre, looking past some outdoor restaurant seating. I'll be away for a few days, so I'll take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Fence Friday and a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Pak Ou caves

25 Jun 2020 55 51 474
Upstream on the Mekong River from Luang Prabang are the Pak Ou caves. They're now a tourist destination, but for aeons they have been a revered Buddhist shrine where people have left statues of the Buddha, some now exceedingly old. (See the PiPs.) Best viewed large. Click here for a view from the caves. HFF everyone, stay safe and have a great weekend. Explored.

Mekong boats

A friendly wave from the passenger on this boat as we passed on the Mekong. As everywhere, there is quite a diversity in the boats on the river - see PiPs.

Fishing the Mekong

24 May 2020 30 18 280
Best viewed large. From what I could see, most fishing on the Mekong River in Laos is done with fixed fish traps. Four are anchored to the bank here, the PiP shows others on the bank awaiting use. Essentially, the fish swims into the tapering funnel and is unable to reverse out, with the gate somehow closing behind. Thanks to Tacheles for suggesting this musical link.

Durras Lake

The bushfires earlier this year came very close to this point, but were stopped just in time. The distant headland is National Park. Explored.

On the Clyde

16 Nov 2019 24 13 550
The Clyde River at Batemans Bay has many recreational boats, plus a variety of rental houseboats. The river is largely unspoiled and it is possible to go up quite a way. Best viewed large.

The barge arrives

14 Jul 2019 31 25 535
Far from my Norway series, in the past few days the "big event" for our little town was the arrival of a 3300 tonne barge which will assist with the construction of a large new concrete bridge to replace our current lifting bridge, AFAIK the last such operating in Australia. The barge had to be brought across the Clyde River bar at high tide (about 0300 that day) then under the current bridge at first light. The barge is about half the size of a football field and had well below a metre of clearance from the pylons on either side! View large on black. Explored.
