MV Isle of Cumbrae, Eilean Chumraigh in Gaelic, was built and launched in Troon in 1976. She initially took up service on the Largs to Cumbrae Slip route before moving around the west coast first to the Lochaline-Fishnish (Mull) route and then the Colintraive - Rhubodach route service before settling in and becoming the regular summer ferry on the Tarbert - Portavadie route. Caledonian MacBrayne... usually shortened to CalMac, is the major operator of passenger and vehicle ferries, and ferry services, between the mainland of Scotland and 22 of the major islands on Scotland's west coast. Since 2006 the company's official name has been CalMac Ferries Ltd although it still operates as Caledonian MacBrayne. In 2006 it also became a subsidiary of holding company David MacBrayne Ltd, which is owned by the Scottish Government. Quoted from Wikipedia
