Laugavegur Trek, Day 1

15 Aug 2010 99
Hraftinnusker Hut, at 11:03 pm. Bright, but it was actually a little lighter out than what it appears in the photo.

View from Hraftinnusker Hut, looking out over the obsidian-covered plains and hills nearby (yes, those coffee-table-sized black rocks are solid obsidian).

The hut at the head of Mala Studena Dolina. (Note the dust spots on the CCD -- this is why you don't change lenses in a dirty environment.)

Schronisko Gorskim

Also known by the tongue-twisting name Schroniso w Dolinie Pieciu Stawow Polskich , or "Hut at the Five Polish Ponds". At first we were surprised at how few people there were here, even at 11:00am, compared to the crowds at Morskie Oko. Turns out they were all down at the waterfall below the hut.

Tourist throngs line the water's edge at the Morskie Oko hut. (Title is a reference to a Larry Niven short story of the same name.)
