This is the second brood on this nest this year. It is located under my deck on the intake/output pipe of my instant hot water heater. They fledged the next day. The first brood had 5 babies. Etowah County, Alabama (IMG_0901)

This phoebe is incubating the pairs' second clutch of the year. The nest is on the turn of a downspout right next to my garage door. The phoebes seem unperturbed by the frequent noise and traffic passing underneath every day because they used the same nest last year. Eastern phoebe - (Sayornis phoebe) This nest on a curve in the downspout under the eave of my house, has been used for years. The parents usually raise two to three families a year. (DSC08801)

I am happy that the phoebes are back this year. For several years they nested on a different downspout, but then last year did not return. This year, they have chosen a downspout right next to the garage door which has a very noisy opener. Also, it is near my dryer vent so warm humid air wafts up nearby. It hasn't seemed to bother them though. It's a plus for me because I can easily photograph them in this location. Will try to get the babies periodically as they are growing up.
