The curved roof on the left of this view covers what were the original Eurostar platforms. When the Channel Tunnel rail link first opened, in 1994, the line north of Ashford, in Kent, was not complete and trains were diverted off the high speed HS1 line on to conventional lines to complete their journeys to London. A site alongside Waterloo station was found, on which to build an international secure station. Since 2007 the Eurostar service now runs to its terminus at St. Pancras Station in the north of central London.

Waterloo Sunset 29.11.2007 Photographed from the approach to Waterloo Bridge, alongside the Hayward Gallery. That presumably accounts for the image of a wood pecker, seen in close-up to the edge of the photo.

December on the South Bank - 29.12.2005

Three photos taken on London's South Bank on 29.12.2005. I haven't done much night-time photography so I have played around with these photos, which I found while looking for something else, just to see if they could be made presentable!

London Cityscape 2008

This collage of London buildings was put together in 2008, from photos taken in previous years. Since then there have been several major new buildings on the London skyline - perhaps a further trip there is called for - to catch up.

The last thing I heard about this Gallery which has had mixed fortunes was that it was going to become a cafe bar.

Waterloo Bridge - Gateway to the Arts - 12.4.2007

With the National Theatre, the British Film Institute, the Imax Cinema, the Hayward Gallery and the Festival Hall behind him, the bare-foot tourist views the artist's work for free! There's room for everyone in the London arts scene.

TS Queen Mary - London - 12.4.2007

This one is mainly for the 'Benches of the World' group. The TS (Turbine Steamer) Queen Mary was last heard of, by me, laid up at Tilbury, further down the Thames, awaiting a decision about her future.
