Diesel powered ice-cream vans that rely on their engine to run their refridgeration and dispensing equipment are gradually becoming limited in the areas in which they can function. Running their engines while stationary polutes the air, which is especially unwelcome around the areas, like schools and parks, where children are. Time limits are in place in some areas. The provision of power points is a positive move in a few areas, where there are approved pitches. Totally electric vehicles are very expensive - some are over £60,000. This van's use of solar panels is a reasonable compromise.
