Cosmic loo, The Cosmic House, Lansdowne Walk, Holland Park. This post-modern house was designed by Charles Jencks and his wife Maggie Keswick Jencks. It was the primary residence of the Jencks family from 1978 until Charles Jencks death in 2019 (Maggie, for whom the Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres are named, died in 1995). The house is Grade I listed.

It looks like a fairy tale cottage, but it's the public toilets on the west side of the Heath.

Stall door in the public toilet, Brooksby's Walk. With many public loos charging 20 or 30p nowadays, it's nice to find one that's still free.

On the back of the toilet stall door. I think this notice dates from the 1950s or so. (The Royal Free moved from Gray's Inn Road WC1 to Pond Street NW3 in the 1970s.) The toilet block had been closed for 20 years before it was opened as The Convenience.

The Convenience 2

During the day, The Convenience serves comfort food that's cooked and served by NANA, an organization of local women over a certain age. I sat on the roof terrace and had a wonderful bowl of carrot soup. There are a number of photos of the interior on NANA's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/wearenana In the evening, a different crew serves drinks and light food.

The Convenience is a lovely cafe in the disused public toilets on Brooksby's Walk. The women's toilet is now unisex and the men's toilet is the restaurant. There's seating downstairs next to the urinals and also on the roof terrace. theconvenience.co.uk
Mass MoCA Bathroom (Self Portrait)

Every trip to MASS MoCA needs to include a stop in the basement bathroom, which preserves a lot of the original stuff from when the building was the Sprague Electric Company.

Top Secret Loo

I can't say where I took this cos it was a No Photos Allowed building. But I just had to have a snap of something to prove I was there. While I was in the loo, Spooner was in the inner sanctum, gazing at the golden throne where the Grand Poobah sits, and he just might have taken some surreptitious shots of the ceiling. Maybe. I'm not saying.
