When one person in the shot is looking straight through the camera — and Maryse has the most amazing, piercing eyes.
With Éli & Anne-Marie, somewhat blurry, but hey.

I have no idea what he was saying, but he said it a lot. These guys reminded me of Les Fatals Picards, a recent French Eurovision entry... although they really surprised me when they did one song in pigeon Russian! I tried communicating with them in my Ukraino-Russian (!) which is a damn sight better than my French, but didn't get very far!

In the Basilique Notre-Dame in old Montréal.
This place brought a tear to my eye. Not for religious reasons, but just because it's so beautiful and peaceful.
A little blurry. A week or so later, taking advantage of the crazy exchange rate, I'd buy my first image-stabiliser lens, for what was effectively half the UK price... looking forward to the results from that :)

Sorry about the motion blur — this is an incredibly dark underground vice den! ;)
A bunch of Algerian and Québecois folks were running the venue in an otherwise pretty run down industrial area, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The local authorities have since closed it down.

I've heard so much about these guys, it was about time I met them! And they're wonderful, of course.

Exploring Montréal the K way — just wandering around with no particular place to go.

Éli on the right, and her wonderful friend and flatmate/landlady Caro, who was ever so kind in putting up with me as well for a while :)
