Spanish Bluebells

11 Apr 2025 18 20 69
Taken from my garden and photographed indoors. This species of bluebell was introduced to the UK by the Victorians in the early 1900s as a garden plant, but have since escaped into the wild and have spread across the country,. Although Spanish bluebells are not on the invasive species list, there are worries out how they affect our native species of bluebells, because they readily spread and can outcompete them and hybridise them. We have lots of these in the garden, despite the fact we keep digging them up and putting them in the compost bin (after the photos of course).

A successful hunt for Bluebells yesterday morning. I didn't see anyone around and it was lovely and peaceful. Two more shots in the PiPs if you are interested. Thanks for looking!

Taken in Stansted Forest, part of the South Downs National Park. The PiPs show some more bluebells and my first butterfly of the year - a lovely Peacock, which was also exploring the bluebells. Best viewed large if you have time. Thanks for looking :-)

First ones I've found this year and they're not quite grown yet. These were behind a barbed wire fence on private land so I was limited to where I could shoot from, plus I had traffic going past about 3 feet away!!

The Macro-Master at work!

Taken this afternoon. I'd like to thank Alby for his advice when I was having trouble with my macro lighting kit today. The first bit I'll ignore (change to Canon) but I'll get started on the second bit this weekend (RTFM)!

Taken this afternoon. About time I got round to "doing" bluebells this year. Thanks to Dave and Alby for the company today (and again to Dave for driving us around). Good to get out again chaps! Oh, and thanks to the cafe for a superb breakfast!!!
