Golden Samphire

21 Oct 2024 18 24 62
Spotted on the mudflats in Hayling Island. The young shoots, leaves and flower buds of the Golden Samphire are edible and are often used in salads. Throughout Europe, it used to be pickled or cooked, most often used as a relish.

Another couple images from my hot and sunny walk around Milton Common a month ago. The other image is in the PiP. Thanks for looking and enjoy the rest of your weekend, whatever you're doing :-)

Shut that Door..!!

I wish people wouldn't leave doors open...............it gets very draughty (or in US English ("drafty"), also lets in flies and wasps.

Milton Common, Portsmouth (+PiP)

31 Jul 2024 19 31 104
Taken during a walk yesterday morning (Tuesday). It turned out to be the hottest day of the year and so I only stayed out for an hour or so. Please check out the PiP for a look at some of the wildflowers on the common.

Flowers in my Lawn

03 May 2023 18 33 156
Well, they were in the lawn until we cut the grass recently, and yes, including the forget-me-nots which are currently trying to take over my garden! Have a lovely day folks.

Uppark House and Gardens

27 May 2022 21 31 110
Another image from Uppark House and Gardens (Natural Trust)...........this was taken with my (oldish) Samsung S9+ mobile phone, which I don't generally use for photography, but on this occasion I had a long lens on my camera and couldn't be bothered to change it for a wide angle. I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality, especially when viewed large.

Uppark House and Copper Beech

26 May 2022 24 24 129
Taken during quick visit to Uppark House and Gardens (National Trust) a couple of weeks ago. The house always looks impressive, but I was so taken by this lovely Copper Beech tree surrounded by Cow Parsley, that I had to walk out and get this photo. I think viewing large is the way to go. Thanks for looking!

At the Seaside

24 May 2022 22 33 153
With beach huts, Gorse and Red Valerian flowers. Taken on Hayling Island, Hampshire.

Bluebell Woods (plus 2 x PiPs)

20 Apr 2022 21 36 189
Taken in Stansted Forest, part of the South Downs National Park. The PiPs show some more bluebells and my first butterfly of the year - a lovely Peacock, which was also exploring the bluebells. Best viewed large if you have time. Thanks for looking :-)

Wildflowers

22 Aug 2021 18 19 162
All captured within a mile or two from my house. Clockwise from top left: Field Scabious (Knutia Avensis), Common Toadflax (Linania Vulgaris), White Campion (Silene Alba) and Cuckoo Flower (Cardamine Pratensis). Please view large if you have time. Thanks.

West Dean Gardens

11 May 2019 20 18 390
My first reall trip out for a while, nothing too strenuous, just a slow walk around West Dean Gardens in West Sussex for an hour or so. We were lucky with the weather and I got a stack of photos too. Please view large, on black. Thank you.

Mining Bee

28 Aug 2018 16 10 275
This tiny little bee (around 1cm long), along with many others, was busily collecting pollen among the wildflowers around Skokholm Lighthouse. I got a few photos of them during my lunch break.
