You really can't see how full this surcote is in this picture. It's got a generous hem and really billows out as you walk. Hopefully, I'll get a better picture when I actually wear it.

The pattern for the surcote is very simple: Back on fold, front on the edge, and cut four of the sleeve pieces. I also created a strip of cloth to create the rolls on the shoulders for the surcote.

The Spanish Surcote pinned. The tabs are folded in at this point because I had to sew them down and then sew the lining. Once the lining is done, the tabs will point out.

Jeannie trying on her Elizabethan Spanish surcote! She's about 8 months pregnant in the picture. I wanted to create something for her that she could wear to the renaissance festival right now but also something she could wear again after my nephew is born. I had a few yards of green velvet in the stash pile and six yards of this lovely gold/green trim.
