A Stark Morning

There's snow in those clouds.... Otto Road, Eaton County, Michigan.

Grace Highway

That's a golf course (Sunfield's Centennial Acres) on the left. Somehow I lived a couple miles from this road for about 20 years without noticing it. Well, I know it's there now.

A Plan for the Day

Yardwork

This photo speaks for itself, methinks. Joan took the week off, and we got the yard, her veggie garden, and our flower plots in order. ========== This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps . 366 Snaps project discussion for June 2 .

Vietnamese Dirt

27 Apr 2006 61
I have a sneaking suspicion that this was supposed to be a photograph of a guppy or a tadpole, or perhaps a miniature catfish. Instead, some wet dirt, and a variety of grasses, moss, and other greenery, and some focal length play. I do like the textures, but all in all it's a pretty strange picture. Pleiku, Republic of Vietnam, 1971. =========== Not really related: The hit counter on this photo stream will pass 50,000 sometime today. Who'd have thought?

Feathered

Loucks School Road

07 Jul 2013 1 117
My photographic mission for the day, a year ago, was to find a combine harvester out tearing up a wheat field. I didn't exactly succeed, but found a fully satisfactory photo of a combine surrounded by large trucks at the edge of a partially-digested field (see below). The farm's on Needmore Highway, and I parked at the corner of Loucks School Road to take the picture. Since I was already on Loucks, I headed up toward the old school. This photo's through my windshield, just a few hundred feet up from the other but looking north instead of west.... ========== I also posted the wheat field photo on Facebook, where it generated some perhaps-entertaining interplay. * High school friend, longtime Florida resident: "Where is this? Surely looks like home." * Me: "Eaton County, at Needmore and Loucks--a place only [former coworker] would recognize. Pretty much nowhere" * Former Coworker: "Yep, pretty much nowhere. That road wasn't paved when I lived out that way." ========== This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps . Boyer Road

30 Jun 2013 2 96
A year ago I stopped at the Thriftway to pick up my morning caffeine hit (an RC cola) and proceeded to drive around the block--a country block--to look for photographs. On Boyer Road (pictured above) I found a bean field (the day's other outtake). These countryside-receding-into-the-distance pix are the photographs I do best, I think. You'll see more. ========== The 366 Snaps photo (it's below) is of the automobile body shop that's kitty-corner from Mulliken's store. Within my memory it housed the local auto parts business, Sharp's Supply , but they moved into a storefront down the road about 25 years back. The big grey building's still part of Sharp's, though; they do body and mechanical work, and general automotive restorations. Some of the restorations are pretty exotic. My 1895 plat map tells me that the building was originally a school. But gosh that's a big school for a very small town out in the middle of nowhere. Most of the surviving local schoolhouses around here were one-room joints; this baby dwarfs those. I need more history, here.... ========== This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps . Number of project photos taken: 10 Title of " roll :" Boyer Road Other photos taken on 6/30/2012: The Daily Flower Census was typically colorful; it included this view of the window garden. And Joan and I walked the beach on Lake Michigan .

Not Every Experiment Works

10 Mar 2013 1 105
I was a horrid photographer last March 10. The day's pix were mostly a collection of odd angles, strange compositions, and poor lighting. I suppose it's possible I learned something from these experiments. But it's not clear what those lessons might have been. Except for the Main Street shot I posted to 366 Snaps, this daffies-at-the-corner-of-the-porch pic was the best. The color's good. Not so much the pic. I do rather like the Main Street photo. ========== This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps .
