It's definitely still being maintained, and there's an active Coast Guard Station (and another light) at the other end of the pier. December 30: Slightly changed--frameless--version posted today....

The best of several unsatisfactory photographs I took of this light. The surrounding buildings are interesting, but I didn't capture them well. The structure did not originally have this elaborate bracing, but it quickly became evident that the tower would not stand without bracing. All in all, it turned out to be quite attractive.

The Sturgeon Bay Canal Station continues to function as a lifesaving station, which was its function even before the lights were built. Here's the little rescue boat, by its pier.
