More Tulips on the Way

I'm often obsessed with flowers. Especially spring flowers. ========== This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps . 366 Snaps project discussion for March 25 .

The Frosted Tulip

Last night's cold snap pretty much did in our few remaining tulips. But the apple blossoms survived. I'll take it.

The Tulip in the Veggie Garden

23 Apr 2012 92
A couple decades ago I planted a Lily-and-Tulip garden behind the garage; in the spring it looked like this and in the summer like this . But eventually we figured out that high-density-bulb configuration was impossible to weed properly, so Joan annexed it for her veggie garden and we distributed a few of the flowers to other beds. Twelve or fifteen years ago. But we missed a few of each. For a while we had a couple tulips growing in the lawn; there are still one or two hiding under the forsythia. And this one, all by itself, growing today dead center where Joan will be planting beans and broccoli and tomatoes a month or so down the road. Sure is pretty.

A Lily Tulip. Actually, a bunch of 'em. Like everything else this spring, these guys are several weeks early.

Another Day, Another Tulip

First Tulip

That's our first tulip of the year. Somehow Joan's managed to transform a rather ugly flower into this interesting image. Not sure how, but I like it. Camera: Olympus Stylus 410 Photo by Joan Bennett

Since we've still a few Tulips in the yard, I thought I'd share one more as we wait for the Irises to open.

The Street Corner Tulip

18 May 2014 1 120
Bought a package of tulips on a whim last autumn, and planted those soon after in the garden I call "Street Corner." I was thinking they'd all look like this, but most of them turned out to be a different varietal. Apparently this was a packaging mixup. Not regretting the purchase, but definitely wishing I'd gotten more of these guys...

The Tulip under the Forsythia

12 May 2014 3 3 181
We used to have a tulip-and-lily garden behind the garage, but long ago we converted it to vegetables. During the conversion some of the tulips got donated to neighbors, others were transplanted, and a few managed to migrate on their own. This is one of the self-migrating plants. It lives under the forsythia, only a few yards from its original home. You really need to know it's there to see it, though....
