Apparently the French, British, and Americans have all held this fort at one time or another. The French help it because it's across the river from Quebec, the England because it was in their part of the continent (at the time), and the Americans when we Brits ceded the land to them. The American promptly used it to bomb British Quebec during the war of 1812.

Independence Rock is on the Oregon Trail. People would carve their name in the rock if they arrived before Independence Day because it meant they'd get to Californian or Oregon before snow came.
