Arethusa bulbosa (Dragon's Mouth orchid)

The second stop of the day was back to the fabulous Edna's Road site, just west of Channel-Port aux Basques. I was looking for the elusive pure white form of the Dragon's Mouth orchid.

Corallorhiza striata var. vreelandii forma eburnea…

One of the highlights of the day, for me anyway, was the Corallorhiza striata var. vreelandii forma eburnea . There is a great deal of controversy about the name of this particular species, but I've done my best here to confuse the matter even more. Suffice it to say, a Corallroot by any other name, looks as beautiful...
This particular form is found in only a couple of places in Newfoundland. The first site we stopped at was near the Lomond River Trail parking lot. Andrus and crew took us to the location for about a dozen perfectly blooming plants. Wow! What a sight.
Later, they would take us to an additional site where there were even more plants, but this represents almost the total of the population of all of these orchids in Newfoundland. We are so grateful to Andrus and his crew for trusting us with these locations...
