Nice houses, shame about the roundabout

This terrace backs on to Richmond Park but in front is the busy Robin Hood roundabout on the A3 Kingston by-pass. (Bet they still cost a fortune though.)

Spot the difference street signs 2

What interests me about these signs is that although they appear to date from the same time there are subtle differences. They are situated opposite each other at the junction with Bayswater Rd. Why the colon after the leading to... on the upper sign? Why have the postcode twice on the lower one (which also appears to use a narrower font)? Also, on this pair, both streets are given the same prominence whereas in the Orme Court sign (previous pic) the leading to... is in a smaller font (which is generally the case I seem to recall).

Benham's Place, 1813

26 Apr 2011 139
Who was Benham? So far it has proved impossible to find out from the Internet as any attempt at Googling Benham+Hampstead just brings up endless links related to local estate agents Benham and Reeves (and since it appears they weren't established until 1958 it's unlikely to be anything to do with them). Update - persistence pays off. He was a high street grocer. "Benham's Place, nine terraced cottages built in 1813 by William Benham, a High Street grocer" British History Online
