Balnakeil Church

A dramatic place. This has been a religious site for about 1200 years and in Gaelic Balnakeil means “bay of the church”. There is a tomb within the walls of the church which has the inscription ""Donald Makmurchou here lies low Was ill to his friend, and worse to to his foe True to his master in prosperity and woe. DMMC 1623".

Floodlight on Foinne Bhein

As we drove north from Tarbet towards Durness we were met by this sight of the late sun spot lighting the white slopes of Foinne Bhein and creating this rainbow. As the rainbow receded, the slopes became dazzling as the sun floodlit the white upper slopes.

Shepherds 05:00 Warning

Red sky in the morning, shepherds warning. And that turned out right on the button. The rain soon arrived and by the end of the day it was blowing F-8 gusting 9. Although the rain eventually abated, the wind continued at storm force for two days and that made for a great experience at Balnakeil and Faraid Head the next day.
