Pre Reformation! HWW!

St Mary's old church & cemetery, Kilmuir, Dunvegan, Isle of Skye. The church was built in 1694 -- the date is inscribed on a stone over the north door -- to replace an older medieval church that served as the parish church for the Duirinish region of northern Skye. The most striking memorial inside the burial ground is a large ashlar obelisk commemorating Lord Thomas Fraser, 10th Lord Lovat, who died in 1699 For clarity, a large view would be appreciated, HWW! Sunlight fighting the clouds above the Minch gives a strange and eerie afternoon light both to the sky and the land. Not that it bothers the sheep, they just keep on grazing. You may need to view large to appreciate the detail

A brief gap in the evening cloud cover allowed the sun a chance to shine across The Minch. A large view may reveal the Outer Hebrides behind the sun rays. Wish you all a good week

With no money to import materials the crofters of the island used whatever materials were available to build a home, stones that were nearby, driftwood for roof timbers often provided by the many shipwrecks and rushes for the roof covering, walls were around three feet thick and windows kept to a minimum with a peat fire for light and heat. The distant island to right of the image is Fladda-Chuin, A submarine grounded on the island in 2002 and caused damage to the hull that cost an estimated £5 million pounds to repair. Stay safe but have a HFF A large view if you are able please
