The top Layer where the majority of the ladies are stood slopes quite steeply to the sea and is quite a sensation when waves are rolling in across Lyme Bay and breaking against the wall, The first sea defense here was in It was in 1538 it has been destroyed by the sea on a number of occasions but the present sturdy Cobb was reconstructed in 1820 using Portland Stone!
