Baked Potatoes

Baked potatoes are often eaten on Guy Fawkes Night; traditionally they were often baked in the glowing embers of a bonfire. Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Day, Bonfire Night and Firework Night, is an annual commemoration observed on 5 November, primarily in Great Britain. Its history begins with the events of 5 November 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords. Celebrating the fact that King James I had survived the attempt on his life, people lit bonfires around London, and months later the introduction of the Observance of 5th November Act enforced an annual public day of thanksgiving for the plot's failure. TSC Halloween food... Pumpkin scones The famous (pumpkin) scone recipe that's still made on the Bjelke-Petersens' Queensland property. Lady Flo's daughter-in-law Karen has taken over the baking duties. Serves:12 Degree of difficulty:Low Cooking Time:15min Ingredients 1 tablespoon butter 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 egg 1 cup mashed pumpkin (cold) 2 cups self-raising flour Method Beat together butter, sugar and salt with electric mixer till light and fluffy. Add egg, then pumpkin and stir in the flour. Turn dough onto a floured board and cut into circles. Place on a tray on the top shelf of a very hot oven (225-250c) for 15-20 minutes. Remove from oven, allow to cool and serve with butter. www.abc.net.au/local/recipes/2013/06/11/3778932.htm Florence, Lady Bjelke-Petersen (born Florence Isabel Gilmour 11 August 1920) is an Australian retired politician and writer. She was a member of the Australian Senate from 1981 to 1993, and is the widow of the longest-serving Premier of Queensland, Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen.
