Socialized - for Happy Caturday
19 Aug 2017 |
|
I love how cats can adjust to new circumstances and - with a little patience - even accept new adult pack members. Contrary to what many believe, cats are actually quite social animals...

We saw this beautiful Turkish Van waiting for a flight in the passenger terminal of Pulkovo Airport, Saint Petersburg. It seemed very experienced with travelling, so maybe it was a Russian show star...
A cousin of Lene has bred van cats for many years - they are such elegant and smart cats that love water. :)

What we did last week...

Last week Lene and I spent a few days in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Just two weeks earlier it had still been snowing, but we arrived for some mild and sunny spring days in this beautiful city - the "Venice of the North".

Onion domes

One more from our trip to Saint Petersburg - the magnificent onion domes on top of the " Church on Spilled Blood ". It looks medieval, but actually just dates from the late 1800's...

Golden domes of Tsarskoye Selo
11 May 2017 |
|
The " Catherine Palace " just South of Saint Petersburg was the summer residence of the Russian tsars. These are the bulb domes on top of the palace chapel.
Deliberately destroyed during the war by retreating German troops, the Palace and park has now been almost completely restored to it's former splendor.
Visiting lavish palaces like this always leaves me with pity for the impoverished serfs that had to pay for it, but I have to admit it is a very impressive part of Russia's history.

I found this coffe mug with the Bastian look-alike in Saint Petersburg - and of course I had to bring it home for my mug collection.

Bastet at the Hermitage

Ancient Egyptian bronze statue at the Hermitage Museum , Saint Petersburg.
The pose of statues of the goddess Bastet has led some owners of Abyssinian (and Somali) cats to believe that their cats descend drectly from the sacred cats of Egypt. Recent DNA tests however place the origins of these breeds on the Indian subcontinent...

Do cats really read - or is this just April fools?

Berlin - Light is stronger than darkness
20 Dec 2016 |

My thoughts go to all affected by last night's terrible events in Berlin, but light and hope is always stronger than darkness and fear - and love will always prevail over terror.
