Cut-paper collage postcard created for the Kollage Kit theme: "Postcards from the Freak Show." Background composed of disarticulated parts of two coconut crabs. Circus gal from Taschen's The Circus . Plus black acrylic paint. About a week ago a very close friend of mine abruptly cut off communication with me. This collage is about how it feels.

Cut-paper collage postcard (plus rubber stamp) created for Kollage Kit theme: "Trios." I had to photograph this one on the kitchen table, 'cause the scanner did a lousy job on the background. Drawing by Glen Baxter. Unfortunately, I have no info on the lovely circus gals. There are nine rubber-stamped stars: you'll have to take my word for it, 'cause two of 'em are nearly invisible.

alive people in the world

Cut-paper collage postcard created for Kollage Kit theme: "Circus." What's a circus without sideshow attractions? Starting in the lower left and going clockwise, you're looking at female conjoined twins, a bearded woman, a half-woman, a fat woman, a woman with no arms, your standard big guy & little guy combo (that's an adult man standing between the giant's legs) and an unfortunate fellow who has a partial conjoined twin hanging off his chest. Don't these people look like they were cast members in Tod Browning's "Freaks" (1932)? That's a superb flick, if you haven't seen it.

a gentle ride for the hobo clown

03 Jun 2012 351
It's a sunny day in 1948. We're in the Boxcar City section of the circus grounds. We see Emmett Kelly, hobo clown par excellence , shufflin' in the grass, practicin' his bit with the broom. All of a sudden--oh no! one of the juvenile Tyrannosaurs has escaped from her pen...she's got Mr. Kelly in her fearsome jaws! No, wait a minute...it's all part of the entertainment...she's trained to do this! She deposits him gently on top of the boxcar, where he scoots over next to a pretty girl with a parasol. Gee...isn't the circus swell? Cut-paper collage postcard. Emmett Kelly from Taschen's The Circus . Dinosaur is actually an Aucasaurus, from Dorling Kindersley's Prehistoric Life.
