Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise "The Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus) also known as the northern sea lion and Steller's sea lion, is a near threatened species of sea lions in the northern Pacific. It is the sole member of the genus Eumetopias and the largest of the eared seals (Otariidae). Among pinnipeds, it is inferior in size only to the walrus and the two elephant seals. The species is named for the naturalist Georg Wilhelm Steller, who first described them in 1741. The Steller sea lion has attracted considerable attention in recent decades due to significant, unexplained declines in their numbers over a large portion of their range in Alaska." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steller_sea_lion AIMG 5347

At 13 miles long, Bear Glacier is the longest glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park. On Bear Glacier, two ice flows meet, forming a medial moraine where the rocky debris carried along the sides of the two ice flows join. AIMG 5252

On the Kenai Fjords National Parks Cruise we passed by a mountain goat and her kid. Between the moving boat and the moving goats, I was unable to get a photo in which both the nanny and the kid were visible. For a photo of the kid, see www.ipernity.com/doc/304817/39143416 AIMG 5244

The mist rises

01 Aug 2015 14 10 571
I had one day only scheduled in Seward, Alaska and I really wanted to go on the Kenai Fjords National Parks cruise. The weather forcast was for 0% rain and partly sunny, but actuality was quite different. It was raining and visibility was minimal. I boarded the boat and hoped for the best. The cruse started in a magical mist and as the day progressed, so did the visibility. I was fortunate to see the fjords in the mist and later, in the clear. AIMG 5227
