Balloon wranglers

Many companies offer hot air balloon rides in Luxor, Egypt. Trucks with workers follow the balloons in their flight over the Valley of Kings and various temples so that they will be ready to fold and load the balloon onto the trucks once they gently return to earth. Between the dust from the desert sand, air pollution and dawn, there was a significant haze in the morning which helped give the background an ethereal feel.

Once the roses are cut, they are measured and sorted according to size. They are packaged with other roses of similar size and color and then shipped around the world. Workers handling the roses wear clothing to protect them from pesticides and thorns.
"NARANJO ROSES produces over 65 different and innovative rose varieties with more than 1.6 million plants in 27 hectares of land, becoming one of the leading flower farm companies in Ecuador in the last years."

Harvesting the cranberries

Harvesting cranberries, Wareham, MA.
To "wet harvest" cranberries, the bogs are flooded with water from nearby ponds. A harvesting machine is then driven through. This machine knocks the cranberries off the plant and they float to the surface. Workers pulling booms corral the cranberries and they are sucked by hose onto a truck to take them to the processing plant. Whole cranberries that are not destined to be immediately processed are picked in dry fields in a labor intensive and weather dependent process.

Collin Street Bakery Farm (Corsicana) is the largest organic golden pineapple farm in Costa Rica and is Fair Trade Certified. A worker dressed in thick clothing to protect him from the sharp spines of the pineapple foliage walks in the field looking for ripened pineapples. Beyond the pineapple field is the papaya field. The fields are ringed by trees which provide shelter for migrating birds.

A construction worker hauling morter at the Nahargarh Hotel near Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, India. Because she was not in her village, cultural modesty demanded that she keep her face covered. Women were frequently employed in construction work to carry heavy loads while the men did the actual construction.
