A holy water font or stoup is a vessel containing holy water which is generally placed near the entrance of a church. In the Roman Catholic Church it is also called a bénitier. ... Holy water is blessed by a priest or a deacon, and many Christians believe it to be a reminder of the baptismal promises.

The construction of the church began in 1557 on land ceded to the Franciscan Religious order by the main chief of the Valley of Lima ,Gonzalo Taulichusco , in order to start the Evangelization, under the name of the Doctrine of the Blessed Magdalene
Its main altar has a beautiful baroque decoration, and there are a series of 8 side altars, all covered with gold leaf.

We were lucky, as there was a wedding going on in this very special church.
Built in 1557, The Parroquia Santa María Magdalena is one of the oldest churches in Lima.
In the 20th century it's façade has been renovated, but the neo-classical style has been preserved
Despite the numerous earthquakes the church has maintained the splendor of its altars and ornaments.
