Richmond Railroad Ferry Terminal 3090a

Looking in the opposite direction from the adjacent shot, oil tank cars are seen just beyond the freeway suggesting that the tracks are still used on that side.

The bright spots in the distance are reflections from office windows in Oakland.

Taken from the same spot as the adjacent picture, this surely looks like what might have been a train depot at one time. But, it's orientation is at a 45 degree angle to the tracks, so either the building was moved or it wasn't a station.

More detail on ferries and the bay. Though I don't have pictures of them, it should be noted that ferries are still a common form of transportation on the bay.

I've never seen a cross signal of this type.

On the north side of Point Richmond looking through the railroad tunnel towards the ferry terminal. The tracks at this point showed some sign of recent usage, but a satellite view indicates that the tracks are not maintained at the other end of the tunnel.

Look closely and you can see very many oil tanks packed tightly together. The houses on the bay are on Point Richmond.

North of the ferry terminal is the Point Malote Fuel Depot. If you look very close you can see that there are very many tanks on the hill -- they're painted a color that blends in with the color of the hillside. The cropped version of this picture (adjacent) shows how dense the tanks are.

On San Francisco Bay in Richmond are the remains of the railroad ferry. A description of the transporting of rail freight and passengers to San Francisco is in an adjacent picture.

Look behind the building in the distance and you can see one of the tunnels that go under Point Richmond. Look closely and you can see a smaller tunnel to the left of the big tunnel, which is the rail tunnel shown in a later picture.

Considering the position of this building, I imagine it was an administrative building for the ferry and barge system.
