The show begins on a patriotic note

Flying the American flag, Ted Williams and his fellow jumpers opened the show.

Some come for the chicken dinner . . .

. . . and stay for the airshow, while others come for the airshow and stay for the chicken dinner. Still others come for both.

More curtain

The other jumper closing the show was Scott Adams of Wellston, Ohio.

Bringing down the curtain

Here's Ted Williams of Marietta, Ohio, one of the jumpers who closed the show.

As scary as it looks

Brett Hunter, in an RV-6 kit plane, flies under Robert "Tico" LaCerda, going sideways in his Pitts Special biplane, itself only 20 feet off the ground. The slightest mistake by either one and things would be very ugly. Neither one made a mistake, no one was hurt, and the airplanes remained flyable.

They didn't run over him, though

With no spinning props nearby, Santa turns loose the young horde.

No, it's not bait

Meanwhile, Santa's helpers Scott Adams and Harry Sowers, known as subordinate clauses, salt the runway with candy. The kiddies will dash out and collect it all.

Not something you see every day

Yes, it's really Santa Claus.

Ho, ho, ho below!

Santa in September? Kids are always happy to see him, even more so if he arrives by parachute.

It's called a spin

27 Sep 2021 88
Student pilots are taught that if their airplane goes into a spin, they need to take their hands off the yoke and kick opposite rudder. Tico LaCerda knows this. That's why the corkscrew does not end at the ground.

Sideways and smoking, near the ground

Airplanes under control aren't normally in this attitude. They're sure as hell not normally at this attitude this low. When he's not throwing his Pitts Special around the sky, Roberrt "Tico" LaCerda flies a different plane, called a 747. Really.

There it goes

27 Sep 2021 73
Nope, it's flying just fine!

Is there gas in it?

27 Sep 2021 79
Hmmm. Something wrong with Roger's lawn mower?

Almost stopped at the top of the sky

It's called a hammerhead stall. And it's best performed with some sky below you.

Just upside down now

Upside down and headed groundward

27 Sep 2021 78
Emerson Stewart III of Waynesville, Ohio put his Champion Sky-Trac through its paces as the first aerobatic plane to fly on a perfect Sunday afternoon.

What colors is your parachute?

27 Sep 2021 79
The show began with a parachute exhibition. Here's Bob Church of nearby Albany, Ohio.

Learning the rules

Before an airshow begins, there's a pilots meeting. It is where they learn everything from radio frequencies to the part of the sky reserved for the show.
