Monday 16 June 2008 (1629) - The trams of VBZ (Verkehrsbetriebe der Stadt Zürich) reign supreme in the core area of Zürich city centre which is served by few VBZ buses. As a result, this was the only VBZ bus I managed to photograph on this visit. However, it was a good one being in the form number 69, a Hess lighTram3 double articulated ‘doppelgelenk’ trolleybus which was just leaving Bahnhofplatz on service 31.

Monday 16 June 2008 (1628) - The trams of VBZ (Verkehrsbetriebe der Stadt Zürich) reign supreme in the core area of Zürich city centre which is served by few VBZ buses. In the peak hours two tram sets are often coupled together. Tram 1660 leads this double set as it turns from Bahnhofplatz into Bahnhofstrasse heading for Wollishofen, a suburb in the south west of the city. The central railway station (Hauptbahnhof) stands behind.

Unidentified tram seen turning from Bahnhofstrasse into Bahnhofplatz when heading northbound on service 11 to Rehalp from Auzelg. We had just ridden from Bürkliplatz on this tram. The central railway station (Hauptbahnhof) stands behind.

Monday 16 June 2008 (1617) - Bürkliplatz is a popular location in Zürich, located on the lake Zürichsee. A number of VBZ (Verkehrsbetriebe der Stadt Zürich) trams serve this point along with two bus services. Tram 2056 was heading to Laubegg on service 5, one of the city’s shortest length tram services. An older tram heads away from the camera on service 2 to Bahnhof Tiefenbrunnen, a station of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) on the south eastern fringe of the city served by suburban trains, two VBL tram services and four VBL bus services. On special days the trams and buses carry flags. The red/white Swiss national flag and the light blue/white Zürich Canton flag were carried plus, although I am not sure why, the dark blue EU flag. (Switzerland isn’t in the EU).

Monday 16 June 2008 (1538) - The trams of VBZ (Verkehrsbetriebe der Stadt Zürich) reign supreme in the core area of Zürich city centre which is served by few VBZ buses. Tram 2075 heads south along Bahnhofstrasse to Wollishofen, a suburb in the south west of the city. If we had sound on this picture we could hear the siren of the police car which was overtaking the tram. A few moments earlier it had been prevented from getting through because of two trams stopped side by side at their stops directly opposite each other. Once away the police car sped down the street to a jewellery shop. As we walked passed we saw someone being arrested.

Monday 16 June 2008 (1538) - The trams of VBZ (Verkehrsbetriebe der Stadt Zürich) reign supreme in the core area of Zürich city centre which is served by few VBZ buses. Seen in Bahnhofstrasse. Tram 2075 heads for Wollishofen, a suburb in the south west of the city, with an unidentified more modern car set working the northbound service 11 from Rehalp to Auzelg. Pedestrians seem to wander aimlessly across the paths of the trams which must mean the drivers have to be very diligent. If we had sound on this picture we could hear the siren of a police car trying to proceed towards the camera – but he just had to wait for the trams to clear. On special days the trams and buses carry flags. The red/white Swiss national flag and the light blue/white Zürich Canton flag were carried plus, although I am not sure why, the dark blue EU flag. (Switzerland isn’t in the EU).

Monday 16 June 2008 (1533) - The trams of VBZ (Verkehrsbetriebe der Stadt Zürich) reign supreme in the core area of Zürich city centre which is served by few VBZ buses. Tram 1660 heads towards the camera when working service 7 to Bahnhof Stettbach, a station of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) on the eastern fringe of the city from where six connecting VBZ buses also leave. This is one of the older trams now in service. Note the three forked flag holder on the front. On special days the trams and buses carry flags. The red/white Swiss national flag and the light blue/white Zürich Canton flag were carried plus, although I am not sure why, the dark blue EU flag. (Switzerland isn’t in the EU). A tram from the 2100 series (2106?) heads the other way to Bahnhof Enge, another suburban SBB railway station. In Bahnhofstrasse with Uraniastrasse crossing beyond.
