Fist 10 cms layer poured in about 90 minutes - a minute a square metre! Two days' delay to allow it to harden, then 10cms of insulation, and underfloor heat piping...

They knew how to build walls properly in the early 1800s! Huge boulders and lime cement meant it took two men with hammers and chisels a day and a half to knock through this section.

"RoofShield" Finally (nearly) watertight, again.

29 May 2013 77
For those of you of a non-technical bent, Roof Shield is a nearly waterproof membrane placed above sarking boards (google?) and under slates, which permits airflow into roof spaces. In England, slates are nailed to narrow battens, with gaps between them, whereas in Scotland the roof is covered in planking (sarking), prior to slating. Amazing what you learn, interrogating your builders!

Need new planking for your roof?
