Lucky II Me

05 Sep 2024 54 69 200
Captured at Tarbert, Loch Fyne, Scotland on a beautiful day. The colourful fishing boats in the harbour caught my eye and I loved the reflections. Tarbert is a town on the isthmus that separates Knapdale from Kintyre. I have added a song by Tom Grennan called 'Lucky Ones' www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg_Qy_s0dOY I think it is probably best viewed large. Please click on the photo or press z.

Silent Working Harbour (Pip)

29 Oct 2023 61 74 262
Pictured at Crail Harbour, Fife on a misty, murky day. A working harbour therefore the scene is a little messy but I liked the colours and the moody atmosphere. It might look a silent, peaceful scene but outside the harbour walls the mist was thicker and the waves were really crashing into shore. Here in the harbour the mist seemed to dampen the sounds I have therefore added a song called 'In the Silence' sung here by JP Cooper www.youtube.com/watch?v=Klfuvx-5C2o I would appreciate it if you could view large. Many thanks.

Loch Katrine Famous Names (PiPs) HFF

01 Jun 2023 63 101 364
Pleasure trip boats at Loch Katrine, The Trossachs, Scotland. Pictured in the main image are 'The Lady of the Lake', and 'Rob Roy III, (also pictured in the first PiP), and the smaller boat is the Osprey private charter boat. At the rear of the image the 'Sir Walter Scott' steam ship can be seen, with a better view in the second PiP. Sir Walter Scott which came into service in 1900, is the only screw steamer still in regular service in Scotland. Lady of the Lake was named after the famous poem by Sir Walter Scott that was published in 1810, which was set in the Trossachs and was responsible for the popularity of the area with Victorian visitors. Rob Roy was named after Rob Roy MacGregor, clan chief and outlaw, born at the head of the loch in 1671. With such literary references I think my choice of music will be 'The Words' by Christina Perri www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9tc9R_Y3FY

Friends (2xPiPs) HBM!

21 May 2023 45 69 284
Captured at Carradale, a little fishing village in Kintyre, Scotland. These two lovely ladies were on a break from their jobs in a care home. Although they previously had totally different careers they both said how much they loved their jobs, and clearly love life as well. They saw me taking photos and joking invited me to take their picture and happily posed for me. We chatted for a while and they even taught me to pronounce a few Scottish place names properly!! I can honestly say they never stopped smiling and laughing. How much of a difference these friendly girls must make to the people they help to care for and their fellow workers. When I almost reluctantly left them to their lunch I was smiling broadly myself. I need sunny people like this in my life too! Here is a song by REM called 'Shiny Happy People' It features Kate Pierson of the B-52's www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYOKMUTTDdA It was used on one of the episodes of 'Friends' and was chosen for the unaired pilot of the show, although it was replaced by the song from The Rembrandts, 'I'll Be There for You' (Wiki) HBM!!

Staxigoe Harbour, Caithness, a peaceful little harbour that was once the largest herring station in Europe, and is now a place to sit and dream. The PiP shows an old, rusty hand winch that stands near to the stack from which the harbour gets it's name.(Staxigoe means the inlet of the Stack) I have added a song by the great Roy Orbison called 'Dream (When You're Feeling Blue) www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjkUypD4hko In 16.9 format so large view recommended. Captured at a picnic area at Latheronwheel, Caithness, Highlands, Scotland. Latheronwheel is a sleepy little harbour and a nice place to sit and enjoy the view and maybe have something to eat. That is of course unless it is your 'Last Meal' With tongue in cheek I have added a song by 'Asleep at the Wheel' called 'Last Meal' www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzuRCeq8uBk

Latheronwheel

19 Jan 2023 42 70 211
Captured at Latheronwheel, Caithness, Scotland, a sleepy little harbour dating from around 1840, where the only noise on our visit came from a nesting bird above us on the cliffs. It must have thought I was too close to it's nest as I walked along the harbour to picture the two small boats seen in the PiP on the right hand side. The bird was agitated and shouting at me, as can be seen in the first PiP on the left, and eventually flew away from the nest, probably to distract me as it looks as if there were young in the nest. To be honest if it hadn't been making all that fuss I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all!!. So, easy now, little birds , you are safe. I have added a song by Neil Gallaghers's High Flying Birds called 'Easy Now' www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoZ3leKz9x4

Boats (PiP)

Bell Tower

18 Sep 2022 62 75 264
Captured at Port Logan, looking across to the pier and old lighthouse/bell tower. The three stage circular lighthouse tower with open light chamber to the third stage was built in 1818 and has been designated as a category B listed building. According to the Visit Scotland site the tower was designed by Thomas Telford. Port Logan is a pretty village and was the location for the BBC series ' '2000 Acres of Sky,' and was used as a location in the film 'Keepers' starring Gerard Butler All that aside it is just a pleasant place to sit and take in the view. I have added a song by Robin Gibb called 'Saved By the Bell' www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhaM84bcQCs

Staxigoe Harbour - HBM!

20 Aug 2022 47 58 272
Taken at Staxigoe Harbour, near Wick, Caithness, Scotland on a beautiful day when the blue of the sky almost merged with the colour of the sea. Staxigoe is from the Norse 'gja or geo' meaning inlet and 'stakkr' meaning stack or rock, thus inlet of the stack. It is an attractive and well cared for little harbour as can be seen by the weather vane and bench painted in jaunty blue and white. Staxigoe dates back to at least 1878 when in featured in the first edition Ordnance Survey map. It was once the largest herring salting stations in Europe but went into decline with the construction of a larger port in Wick just a coupld of miles East of here. Nowadays a set of steps lead down to this pretty harbour where there are just a couple of small boats, seen beyond the bench here. The massive 'stack' or rock of which the top is visible on the left of the picture has an old winch nearby and picnic tables painted in the same blue as in the shot. The gentle slope out to the Noth Sea makes it a popular place for swimmers. As a nod to the herring salting history of the place I have added a link from Vision Thing which is a song about a fishing community near Wick and is called 'Silver Darlings' (Herrings were of course known as silver darlings) www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHXs1Wea_YQ Please view large as this in in 16.9. Many thanks
