Crumbling walls on the Mull of Galloway with drystone walls in the distance and a landscape that tumbles right down to the sea. I have added a song by Allison Moorer called 'Tumbling Down' www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5JZzWz9nt0

Mystery of the Lost 'Bum' - PiPs

01 Jan 2023 52 73 288
Drumburn Viewpoint on the Nith Estuary on the Solway Firth in Dumfries and Galloway. Across from here on the other side of the Solway Firth is the English coastline On Google Earth the sign on the wall at the entrance to the viewpoint reads 'Drumbumburn Viewpoint 2004', - either an error or we have the strange case of a missing bum! I guess if it was an error they had to 'Rub it out and start again' I have therefore added a song by Lynsey Paul and Mike Moran called 'Rock Bottom' I believe it came second in the Eurovision Song Contest www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qktTavgC1c

Folly on the Hill

29 Jun 2022 60 74 392
Taken at Oban, Argyll, Scotland. I love the light and the colours reflected in the water. In a prominent position above Oban stands McCaig's Tower, a folly on Battery Hill which the banker John Stuart McCaig had built as a monument to his family and also to provide work for local stonemasons. It is made from Bonawe granite sourced from Aird's Bay, Loch Ewe. I have added 'Fool on the Hill' by the Beatles as a link www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b-MItE_D5U

Danger Zone! (PiP!)

29 May 2022 57 79 423
The closed off entrance to Birnbeck Pier captured in early evening light at Weston super Mare. You can just see the end of the dilapidated Birnbeck Pier on the far left behind the fence, and the Pip shows it in full. Hopefully when the pier is finally renovated this will be a more pleasant place to sit and enjoy the sea air. I have added Gwen Stefani's Danger Zone as a link www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_gfhjxY20k and Richard Marx with 'Hazard' www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckUV8X6MkaI

High Voltage HFF!

20 Jan 2022 65 69 455
River Parrett from Steart Marshes. The Power lines carry up to 400,000 volts, and whilst considered by many to be an eyesore, I liked the reflections at this time and the symmetry of the lines stretching into the distance, I have added ''Live Wire' by Sheryl Crow, featuring Bonnie Raitt and Mavis Staples www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPxU8sE2NvY and 'live' version www.youtube.com/watch?v=kucKKw9C8DA

Combwich Wharf (PiP) HFF

02 Jul 2020 68 84 576
Evening light on Combwich Wharf on the River Parrett, Somerset. Once the site of an ancient ferry crossing the port was used for the export of local goods and import of timber from the 15th Century. The village was the centre for brick and tile making from as long ago as 1842, and it served as the local brick and coal yard until the 1930s when the creek silted up. The spur of water that served the wharf is known as Combwich Pill and Combwich wharf is currently being used for the delivery of large equipment for use on the Hinkley Point C power station The PiP shows an historic channel marker buoy at the wharf. I have added a song by the Grateful Dead, - 'Wharf Rats' www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_pH-RWHLyo

Faith (and Grace and Gabriel! in PiP!!)

04 Mar 2020 70 85 614
The gatehouse to the Bishops's Palace, Wells, Somerset on a lovely sunny day. This beautiful medieval palace has been home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for over 800 years. Crossing the drawbridge across the moat you can see to your right a bell with a cord attached hanging from a window. The swans on the moat pull the cord, causing the bell to ring until they are fed. Grace and Gabriel are the new swans brought in from a rescue centre and trained to ring the bell in time honoured tradition. Please see PiP. I have added Faith's Song by Amy Wadge as a link www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gzZEtiusO4 Best viewed large I think. Thankyou

Church of St Laurence, Priddy (PiPs)

26 Jan 2020 43 34 377
Church of St Laurence, Priddy on the Mendip Hills. Originally built in the 13th Century the church was partially rebuilt in the 15th Century and restored between 1881-1888. The churchyard is said to predate the church. The stained glass window was donated in memory of Catherine Gibbons of Eastwater Farm who died aged 19 in 1988. The window shows her beloved horse. (Please see PiP) Priddy itself is steeped in history. Priddy sheep fair has been held on the green from at least as early as 1348. There are also four earthwork enclosures called the Priddy Circles. These are thought to have been the site of henge monuments. There is also evidence of a number of possible Bronze Age barrows said to be associated with the circles. I have added 'In A Country Churchyard' by Chris de Burgh as the link www.youtube.com/watch?v=GivSUKTILUQ

The Castle on the Loch

21 Feb 2019 65 46 797
Our journey took us past Castle Ardvreck, built around 1590 on a rocky promontory on Loch Assynt, Sutherland by the Clan MacLeod. The mountain in the background is Glas Bheinn. Although the castle is mostly in ruins some walls are still standing after all these years. The song I have added is by Journey - 'After All These Years' www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcEudimJe2g Best viewed large
