Ruddy Darter Female

14 Jul 2009 108
At first I thought this would be the common darter, but on further examination its clearly the Ruddy Darter female. The give aways are the missing yellow stripe the length of the legs (as seen on the common) and the red in the base of the wings.

Death by Unicorn

The legend that when you run out of battery power or your memory card is full or your camera is off or at home, that you'll see magical dancing bears, trolls crossing the road in front of you, or Unicorns will attack is TRUE. As soon as Mike put down his camera he was attacked and killed by the fabled Unicorn. Of course my camera was off, so I only caught the aftermath.

In all we saw (that I'm aware of at least) 10 different species of butterfly on the wing in Brede. Thats pretty amazing for one day out/one area, which just shows you how well they have done there making varied habitats for different species of wildlife.

This caterpillar is often mistaken for the Drink Moth caterpillar as it was originally by me on the day, but on closer examination you can see its very different :)
