Mandalay: no idea what these mean - it was difficult to get information in English at all but the biggest of places (and even then some) and not many of the locals could speak English.

Mandalay: at the same place as the Skinny Buddha. All of the Buddha statues here - and in many others in Myanmar - had long 3D eyelashes. I have never seen that on Buddha statues anywhere else in Asia and it really surprised me.

Mandalay: so we rented bicycles and set out to see the things close to our end of Mandalay city. Our first stop was this place with several unusual Buddha images, built in 2011. (I feel silly not knowing what the proper name of this shrine is.) Images of the Buddha in at the end of his life are to be seen in different countries in Asia, but this one was pretty unusual in its design. Rather modern and stylised. This is the Skinny Buddha from behind.
