My favourite hen Aggie and another hen hatched chicks the same day. They co-parented for a few days, and the chicks seemed to consider both hens equal mothers and would sit under either. Then the white hen decided she wanted them all to herself and gentle Aggie got bullied and then attacked. We found we depressed with one eye shut and blood on her comb. We cleaned her up with warm salty water (eye popped open and was fine - was only closed shut with dried blood) then put pawpaw creme on her wounds. She's now sort of assistant mum to the other one. Follows her and the chicks, and the chicks will still sit under her when there is no room under the white hen.
