This is the Chilean side of the pass. We intended to drive down here and back to Argentina via tunnel, but it was closed because of snowdrifts. The high peak in the left background is Nevado Juncal (5965 m), other summits are marked in the image. Nevada Fall and Liberty Cap - 1986

The highest summit of the Paine range is Cerro Paine Grande. For a long time its elevation was claimed to be 3,050 m, but in August 2011 it was ascended for the third time and found to be 2,884 m, which is still high for southern Patagonia.

Monte Fitz Roy (also known as Cerro Chaltén or Cerro Fitz Roy) is a mountain located near El Chaltén village, in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, on the border between Argentina and Chile. First climbed in 1952 by French alpinists Lionel Terray and Guido Magnone, it remains among the most technically challenging mountains for mountaineers on Earth. Elevation is 3375 m.
