Aieeeeee!!!

24 Aug 2016 8 9 1216
A photo for the Vintage Photos Theme Park monthly topic of quirky humor (submit a photo on this topic each week in addition to—or instead of—a photo for the weekly topic). I was saddened to learn that Barbara "Babs" Bird (aka corduroy cat), a former member of the Vintage Photos Theme Park, passed away on February 9, 2020. I always appreciated her quirky sense of humor. Although all of her comments disappeared when she left Ipernity a couple of years ago, I remember that she said that this was her favorite photo of mine. -------- Lots of fun details here--pouts, grins, somber looks, closed eyes, big hats, wall hangings, patterned wallpaper, a mirror. And then there's that kid in front who's yelling at the top of his lungs and ruining the picture: Aieeeeee!!! The photo came in a nice paper frame , too:

Grin and Bear It

05 Dec 2016 3 1 1041
A what a grin photo for the Vintage Photos Theme Park. Written on the front of this real photo postcard: "Hello Enulia, this is me. Harold Andersun" (my best guesses for the spelling of the names). Stamped on the back: "Downers Grove Photo Studio" (which was probably located in Downers Grove, Illinois) . Poor Harold has evidently heard the bad news about Ipernity but is still putting on a brave front (unlike me, who's having a bit of trouble mustering up a smile).

See You Later, My Head's in an Alligator!

26 Sep 2015 1 1090
Postmarked: Miami, Fla., July 29, 1939. A real photo postcard of a father and son striking an amusing pose with an alligator (a stuffed gator or a statue of one, that is!). For an earlier example of father-son alligator antics, see Father and Son with Alligators :

I'm Enjoying Myself Immensely

Milking Rattlesnake, Ross Allen's Reptile Institut…

06 Feb 2015 4 1878
A linen postcard with a close-up of a rattlesnake being "milked," which supplies venom for use in making antivenom . For another view of the procedure, take a look at a slide of a rattlesnake milking demonstration that also took place at Ross Allen's Reptile Institute in Silver Springs, Florida:

Bob on His Bike with His Mouth Open as Usual

It's Contagious

Yawning--that's what's contagious!

Here's a Maid Past Sweet Sixteen

02 Oct 2013 2 740
This makes me cringe every time I look at it, so it must be appropriate for the Weird Vintage Postcards group. 8-) "Here's a maid past sweet sixteen, / Who'd hardly pass for beauty's queen, / To set her free 'twould not be wise, / She'd bite and scratch out your eyes." Handwritten message on back: "With my compliments, E.B." Addressed to: "Miss Bertha Fulton, Sinnemahoning, Pa." No stamp or postmark. Printed on back: "Series 539."

Halloween Pirate Mask

03 Oct 2013 5 1396
"Old Fashion Ginger Snaps. Baked by Nabisco. National Biscuit Company." In addition to this paper pirate mask, Nabisco also promoted its Old Fashion Ginger Snaps with a "Rocket Man" mask (which turned up in a Google search--I wish I had a copy of it!), and I'm guessing that both masks probably date to the 1960s or 1970s. And who knew that pirates had such big ears? 8-)
