POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Not Posted. Publisher / Photographer: Lyall Commercial. Notation: Apart from the great headgear, it was the background of this image that was of particular interest to me. On the right is the seldom-seen backside of the old Law Court building on Kennedy St. The building on the left is a wing of the old Vaughan Street Gaol. The tall wooden fence behind the trees is part of the wall that enclosed the exercise area attached to the jail. The top of the fence has some kind of fixture that would prevent inmates from climbing out.

Date: Posted June 29, 1907 Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified. The white building on the right is identified in handwriting as the Courthouse and Jail. This card was sent from Eva Smith, Stonewall to Mr. E. T. Sirett, Glendale. (Ebenezer Tom Sirett was the oldest child of W. F. Sirett, former Member of the Manitoba Legislature, from Glendale.) She wrote: "Dear Mr Sirett, Accept my heartiest congratulations. The class did well didn't it. yours truly Eva Smith." Note: Ebenezer Tom Sirret was apparently a lawyer in Rossburn when he enlisted to serve in WWI. He was awarded a medal for his actions at Passchendale.
