Hay bales dot the fields just north of the Great Sand Hills, but the straight lines of the hay baler were interrupted by a low spot where the vegetation was green. The remnants of a terrific electrical storm linger in the sky in the background.

I took this image in September 2013, on my way to the Great Sand Hills in southwest Saskatchewan. There had been a terrific electrical storm overnight, but because of the light soil there were few traces of the rainfall. The remnants of the storm can be seen here, moving off to the southeast. Using the better editing tools now available, I decided to try editing the image. With a 21:9 crop and some tweaking to the sky and the vegetation, I think it makes a better image.

This building originally seems to have been a store, with a garage and living quarters tacked on later. It is located on a gravel road a few kilometres from the village of Spring Valley. I took this image in between rain showers in July 2013.
