Tributes poured in this afternoon following the announcement of the death of Civic Pride. Mr Pride had been suffering from lassitude for several years and his passing had been expected as his will weakened and his grip on his responsibilities was surrendered. I had but a single focal length to work with on this occasion: 50mm on the 30D provides a field of view equivalent to 80mm on full frame or 35mm film camera. Had I had a standard zoom lens attached instead I would have used a wider aspect. There is something to be said for the challenge of one prime lens.

A damp Wednesday morning in Trowbridge. An attempt to do it the old way: 50mm prime lens (a Carl Zeiss Jena f/2.8 Tessar); manual focus, of course, and all-manual exposure setting. The camera was a Canon EOS 30D - I am not yet contemplating the final hurdle of film. The field of view with this camera and lens combination is similar to using a lens of 80mm focal length on a 35mm film camera. Only occasionally frustrating for wide shots, it is generally a satisfying general purpose lens.
