Photographed using a Helios-44 preset lens having M42 screw thread fitted via an adapter to a Canon EOS 30D camera. The lens has a focal length of 58mm and on the Canon it gives a field of view of just over 90mm.
A Chinon Lens Amongst Yellow Bleeding Heart

This 55mm f/1.4 Chinon lens came with a Chinon CX camera dating from c1976. I bought them on eBay for £37 in 2015. I only wanted the lens, which was made by the Tomioka company for Chinon, who sub-contracted all their lens needs during that period.
I photographed it using a Helios-44 58mm f/2 lens on a Canon EOS 30D camera. The Helios is even older, probably made during the 1960s. It is a preset lens; I had no experience of such technology until acquiring it. I got it on eBay attached to a Zenit-E camera.

I used a Helios-44 obtained from a Zenit-E camera from circa 1967. The Helios is a Soviet copy of the Carl Zeiss Biotar 58mm ƒ/2 lens; here I used it in combination with some cheap supplementary close-up lenses screwed into the filter mount. The camera was a Canon EOS 30D. ISO 400; 1/125th; f/2.

Not by a long chalk is this the first time I have photographed my birdbath. But I don't recall shooting it with a Helios-44 58mm f/2 lens before. It's not a result which showcases the unusual and distinctive bokeh of that lens, yet I nevertheless like the way it turned out.
I put large stones and pieces of brick in my birdbath chiefly to deter wood pigeons from taking a full bath and generally being disgusting. A side benefit is that it anchors the contraption to the ground more securely. And it provides a subject to point my camera at from time to time.

A close-up of a Zenit-E made with a Helios-44 58mm f/2 lens on a Canon EOS 30D camera. The lens which you can see a part of attached to the Zenit is a Meyer Optik Orestegor 200mm f/4.
