Coffee Mug

The Nikon D2Xs (2006) is not recommended for low-light photography, and if high ISO levels are chosen to get round that difficulty, the quality of the photograph will be poor. There are three other ways round this problem. One is to increase the light. I tend to avoid that. Anyway, the D2Xs lacks a built-in flash. The second is a long exposure using a support such as a tripod. I lack the space for that. The third is to use a very fast lens, or (as in this case) a fairly fast lens which can do image stabilisation. You need to get more light in and hold it together for a long exposure. That is the path I took, using the Tamron 35mm f/1.8 VC lens. Well ... it's a bit of a compromise alright. I kept the ISO at 200. Even at 400 ISO the D2Xs gets a bit moody. The lens was wide open at f/1.8. The shutter, hand held, went off at 1/15th. This was my third mug of coffee so holding the heavy camera steady was a greater challenge than it otherwise might have been I wonder if golf players make things deliberately difficult for themselves ...

Carte Noire

The plasticised label round a jar of instant coffee was removed and pushed inside the empty jar where it unfurled itself until it reached the edges. I put the jar into a bush and photographed it with a Nikon D50 and a 50mm lens. There has been some modest editing in the Apple Photos software.

Leykers: Coffee, Food and ... Passion

Leykers was established in 1999. They do coffee; food; passion. It says so on their website so it must be true. I have sampled the coffee and the food; they were OK. So far I have not had the passion. Canon EOS 30D + Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50mm f/2.8 lens.

Cafetiere

I used a Helios-44 obtained from a Zenit-E camera from circa 1967. The Helios is a Soviet copy of the Carl Zeiss Biotar 58mm ƒ/2 lens; here I used it in combination with some cheap supplementary close-up lenses screwed into the filter mount. The camera was a Canon EOS 30D. ISO 400; 1/125th; f/2.

Canon EF 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 lens on a Canon EOS 30D camera with a hand held magnifying glass in between. I don't suppose Eric Madigan Heck has tried this technique. gizmodo.com/this-fashion-photographer-uses-only-one-beat-up-hand-me-1586569058 ISO 800; f/3.5; 1/100th; lens at 40mm (field of view equivalent 64mm).
