A collage based on part of this:

A Wet Day for An Assignation

Who Said?

Because I created this collage on a computer, and made this picture by simply photographing the screen, it has never had much fidelity. I have used Lightroom to attempt an injection of contrast and clarity, not altogether successfully I'm afraid. So I posted it in ipernity afresh just to use picmonkey on the image, because I have discovered that what one photo processing program cannot do, another one sometimes can. And although it is not perfect - nowhere near - it nonetheless is an improvement. The collage comprises clipped newspaper articles and advertisements; items found in old magazines (some very old indeed); an old knitting pattern cover; a detail from the cover of a book published by university undergraduates in the early 1970s; an old family photograph (but I don't know who they are/were); a detail from a letterpress printing project by Walter Partridge of the Perdix Press; stuff noticed on the internet; and even an original photograph taken on a day out. Photographed with a Nikon D700 and a 55mm Micro-Nikkor f/3.5 AI lens direct from the computer screen.

The Universe is Full of Broken Fragments of Ideas

04 Apr 2019 3 6 187
A photograph of a Nikon FG-20 with a Soligor 80-200mm f/4.5 zoom lens, hanging from a peg with a raincoat, alongside some dandelion clocks which I also photographed because dandelions are majestic and indomitable. All art is the result of observation. Often we see yet do nothing. Sometimes we do not notice at all. Ideas are fragile. They quickly vaporise if they are not preserved and developed. The universe is full of broken fragments of ideas.

Peter Pan Foundations (Boudoir Edit)

Photographed direct from the screen from the earlier picture with a yellow acetate superimposed. It still wasn't right so I adjusted the tint in Lightroom. Every time you pull this stunt the image degrades, like a bad copy on a dirty photocopier. And oddly, it looks improved over the advertisement clipped from a 1960s magazine. At least, I think so.

Now that the Magnet Joinery School of Collage and Photography is getting into its stride, I would consider it a grave offence against collage not to register a continuing interest in the project.

A simple collage comprising a bus ticket issued during 1970 which I discovered in a secondhand book where it had been doing service as a bookmark; and part of a page from a 'Nova' magazine of the same period.

A photograph clipped from the 'Radio Times' of the actor Charlotte Ritchie is in the lens hood of a Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50mm f/2.8 M42 screw-thread lens fitted via an adapter to a Canon EOS 30D DSLR camera. Photographed using a Chinon 55mm f/1.4 on a Canon EOS 40D. I realise this is way too much technical information for most people. I got a bit carried away.

Kh 6153 + Masumi

One last throw of the dice with ipernity, the website that is too good to survive in a world which prefers Piccadilly Circus to Kurt Schwitters. This crude collage was made from two separate photographs which appeared side by side in my photo stream on flickr. Both date from 1970. The bus ticket I found in a book from a charity shop. The black and white photograph of a girl was part of a stylish advertisement for a scent called Masumi by Coty. I saw it in an old Nova magazine. I simply photographed the computer screen to unite the two pictures, and processed the result in Lightroom. Nikon D2Xs and Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Model A16N.
