The Cistern

This DEEP square hole in the centre of the outer ward at Morlais Castle was thought to have been a well or water storage tank once?

Crypt stairway

The only part of the castle to remain intact, is this stairway, door and Crypt beyond. This would have been at the base of the Keep tower once.

All that remains

A view across Morlais Castle. Only mounds and the occasional low wall show where the castle once stood. The mound in the in the centre of the photograph was the Keep, beneath which is a remarkably well preserved Crypt!

Magic

What a discovery! Who would have thought that this amazing Crypt would have survived beneath the totally ruinous Morlais Castle! Best seen HERE believe me!
